Firstly a brief word on Profiles. Email Autoresponder can support multiple profiles for each user. The easiest way to explain a profile is to relate it to your web business. The profile encapsulates the identity of your web business. It includes information like your domain, company name, address, settings on how you would like Email Autoresponder to respond to emails and actions from your subscribers.
The profile page is split into a number of tabs.
It is not essential to have every field complete to allow the system to run correctly. However to take advantage of all of the excellent features of Email Autoresponder you will have to become aware of the function of each of the sections listed above.
To change your profile settings:
| 1. | Select Profiles » Show from the menu bar. |
| 2. | Click on the Properties link in the actions column of the profile that you wish to change. |
| 3. | Make the required changes to the settings. |
| 4. | Click the Save Changes button. |
The Personal Settings » section contains many fields of information on you and your company.
Each Personal Settings field has a tag, for example {MY_TITLE}, that can be used to insert that piece of information into your follow-up and broadcast messages.

» Domain and web site settings |
|
Your domain |
The domain name of the site which you are managing with Email Autoresponder. It is very important that this is correct as your Email Autoresponder system will not work correctly if it is wrong. |
Your support e-mail address |
Many of the success and failure confirmation screens that your subscriber will see have this address shown on them. The subscriber is invited to send e-mail to this address if they have a problem subscribing to or unsubscribing from your autoresponders. |
System e-mail address |
Many of the success and failure confirmation screens that your subscriber will see have this address shown on them. The subscriber is invited to send e-mail to this address if they have a problem subscribing to or unsubscribing from your autoresponders. |
Field Name |
Description |
Show extra subscriber info? |
The subscriber list screen shows basic information for each subscriber, such as e-mail address. If you want to display much more information about each subscriber, check this box. Information like first, middle and last names, full name, message format preference etc will also be shown in a yellow tinted box under each subscriber in the list. |
E-mail failures |
Email Autoresponder intercepts and tracks messages that bounce back from your subscribers. It is important to realize that a message may bounce back for a reason that's only temporary, such as a server failure. This setting control how many times Email Autoresponder will try to send a message to a subscriber before they are flagged as 'failed' and no further attempts are made. The default setting is 3. Note that this process works only if you have e-mail capturing working as described in the installation instructions. |
Number of subscribers per page |
This sets the number of subscribers that are shown on each subscriber listing page. In most cases, you don't need to see many subscribers. You can speed up the display of the subscriber list by setting this number quite low (eg 5). The default is 50. |
Preview font |
The font used when displaying plain text previews of your follow-up and broadcast messages. |
Normally, when someone subscribes to one of your autoresponders through a form on a web page, any success or failure messages displayed to your subscriber are the Email Autoresponder defaults. If you would rather use your own pages, you can create them in your HTML editor, upload them to your web site and enter their URL's in this section.
Note that there is a more advanced version of this. Each of your tracking tags can also have custom success and failure pages assigned to it. This allows you to create different custom success and failure pages, for different subscription forms. For example, you might use one form on your web site with it's own set of custom success and failure pages and another form in a popup window with different custom pages.
When Email Autoresponder is deciding which confirmation page to show your subscriber, here is the order of precedence it uses:
| • | Tracking tag custom page as defined in the settings of the tracking tag you have embedded in your subscription form. |
| • | Default custom pages as defined in this screen - used when no custom pages have been defined for the tracking tag embedded in your subscription form. |
| • | The built-in Email Autoresponder defaults (no work required on your part). - used when no tracking tag or default custom pages have been defined. |
The four default custom pages that you can create are:
| • | Default custom subscribe success page URL |
| • | Default custom subscribe failure page URL |
| • | Default custom unsubscribe success page URL |
| • | Default custom unsubscribe failure page URL |
Custom message page header HTML & Custom message page footer HTML
If you choose not to create custom pages, you can use the built-in defaults. Even these can be customized by pasting in some HTML for the header and footer of the page. This allows you to customize the system to the style of your site without creating an entire set of custom success and failure pages.
